What would a CEDAW Ordinance Look Like?

To be effective, a CEDAW ordinance must have three core elements. It must ensure:

1. A gender analysis of city operations (workforce, programs, budget) is undertaken annually by city departments and agencies. The results of such gender analyses must be publicly accessible and serve as the basis for annual action plans.

2. An oversight body is empowered to monitor the implementation of the local CEDAW ordinance, including action plans and ongoing efforts to eliminate discrimination on the basis of gender.

3. Funding to support the implementation of the principles of CEDAW. A budget of 10 cents per woman per year is recommended.
